Revolution Composites is experienced in processing of many matrix chemistries.
Epoxies
Epoxies are the most commonly processed matrix resins for our composites customers. Epoxies are thermoset resins, which means they are crosslinked. Typically they have good physical properties from an elevated cure temperature. However, there are some room temperature systems that achieve more than acceptable properties without a post cure.
Bismaleimides
Bis-maleimides or BMIs use a polyimide chain to achieve a higher temperature performance. BMI's exhibit a higher toughness yet possess a low processing viscosity which makes them ideal for high performance structural composites requiring increased toughness as well as high temperature resistance. These systems are typically used in 'hot and wet' applications up to 300C in products like jet engine parts, defense applications and motorsport products where their higher cost does not preclude their use.
Cyanate Esters
Cyanate Esters are another high performance resin system that Revolution Composites has a strong knowledge base. Similar to BMI's these resins have a good balance of structural, performance and toughness. They are typically effective up to 250C and offer superior hot/wet performance. One of the benefits of Cyanate esters are their excellent resistance to microcracking and very low outgassing, which makes them ideal for space applications. In order to successfully process these systems, special handling and process equipment should be used to ensure final material properties.
